I bought this for my office and it works great, I like the ports on top for the cables that go in and then out again.
Both devices work properly through this powered hubNOTE: Make sure you plug the hub into its power source BEFORE you plug it into your computer. I thought it didn't work at first and it turned out to be this little gotcha. I bought this hub to use with my MacBook. If you plug it into the computer first, it ignores the power connection and works as a passive hub. You should get both an orange AND green light when it's powered, but only an orange light when it's not. I wanted to have 4 devices statically plugged into it when I 'dock' my computer at home, and still have a couple ports for dynamic use. Two of the devices were my iPhone and a Western Digital MyBook 250gb HD, both of which worked only on the MacBook's native ports and not through a passive hub (even though the MyBook has its own power source - seems odd).
I used it 24/7 while it worked. I took the money as while I am sure mine was just a dud, I worry that next time it will happen after the 45 day period and I will have to deal with the shipping and returns of Belkin, which is limited lifetime. I bought it as it was externally powered, cheap and had 5 side ports and two fast ports on the top for those things like my camera or Samsung Mp3 player that I need to quickly access.
I have Windows Vista which told me that "something was wrong with this" and it had "stop communicating". I am unsure at this point what to do, so I guess I'll wait on the sidelines a bit and see what happens in this space. I tried it on a Linux machine and again the same problem no power so I returned it to Amazon who offers either a refund or an exchange if it is within the 45 day period.
As for the instability issues I really don't understand that comment as the hub is flat as board, and is well weighted to hold to the desk well. It has power leds on the side, one for its power and then others for those things you have connected; it was dead. Kandy
It set up like a breeze and worked flawlessly for all of 3 weeks when suddenly it died. I never moved it or unplugged it.
As I had it sitting on a wooden desk, I was fearful that this could realistically represent a fire hazard. BUYER'S WARNING: This hub and items attached to it (e.g. This appears to be a very common problem with this USB hub. I am returning the unit for a refund. my wireless mouse) were frequently spontaneously shut off and on. The unit got extremely hot, so hot in fact that I could not keep a finger against its base.
GOOD, BUT CAN NOT CHARGE MY IPHONE WHEN PC IS OFF.IT HAS A POWER SUPPLY, IF IT CAN CHARGE USB DEVICES WHEN PC IS OFF, THAT WILL BE GREAT.
